Improv
When I was in grad school, I starting taking improv classes and very quickly became hooked on this unique and wonderful artform. I am very lucky to have been trained in "The Harold" (improv longform) by Charna Halpern herself, of the ImprovOlympic in Chicago. My training led to membership in several performance troupes over the years, and eventually to teaching kids. The classes became very popular and soon filled up. After watching their kids' performance at the end of the class, many of the parents begged me to start an adult class. So eventually I did. What a surprise to find a brand new joy in teaching adults, who never get a "playtime" of their own. It was an amazing adventure watching these adults learn to let go of all their insecurities and fears (of performing, of looking silly, of going all out) and blossom through improv. One of my classes even continued on and became a performance troupe of their own! Since then I have been dedicated to teaching improvisation to kids and adults. I have taught in Iowa, Alaska, California, and most recently in Colorado. Now that my second daughter has arrived, I am continuing to seek opportunities to teach improv so I can share the love of this incredible artform! If you have never given improv a try, I highly recommend it!
